Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”
Matthew 19:14
In times of loss, particularly when facing the heartache of miscarriage or infant loss, the journey through grief can feel both overwhelming and profoundly lonely. The Church walks with all who mourn the death of a child, whether before or after birth, entrusting these children to the mercy of God and supporting the parents in their time of sorrow, offering both hope and comfort found in Christ’s love.
Embracing the Sacredness of Life
In our Catholic faith, we believe that every life, no matter how brief, is a gift from God and holds immense worth. The loss of a child is a deep and painful experience, and it is important to honor and acknowledge that pain. We understand that each child, created in the image and likeness of God, is cherished and loved, and their passing leaves a significant space in our hearts.
Finding Comfort, Hope, and Assurance
We find comfort in knowing that God’s love is boundless. Even as we grapple with questions and grief, we find solace in trusting that God’s plan, though beyond our understanding, is one of love and care. Jesus Himself promised that He is with us in our suffering, and this promise remains a beacon of hope in our darkest hours. While the Church entrusts the souls of those who have passed before us to God’s mercy, we find assurance in His promise of eternal life.
