ORLANDO | A statue of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (Antipolo) made its grand entrance at the doors of the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe on July 24, 2022 as hundreds of Filipinos throughout Florida gathered to honor their beloved patroness.
Father Kenny Aquino, who leads the Filipino community in the Diocese of Orlando said the pilgrimage in the diocese dates to the year 2000, when the Filipino community began this special devotion at the basilica. Others followed, but the feast day of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage is considered primary. “Though we are coming together from varied places, we are one in going to the calling of the Blessed Mother to follow her Son, Jesus, especially this Sunday. Our message is about prayer.” He further noted, “Our Mother is the model of prayer for us to follow. She tells us, ‘Listen to Jesus. Hold on to the helm of Jesus and be close to Him. To her we say, ‘Thank you for giving us your Son, Jesus. To Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, we say, ‘Pray for us.’”
