Blessing for seniors in need

ST. CLOUD | On March 7, Juan Vega, Catholic Charities of Central Florida’s director of food ministries, joined his team in delivering more than 40 boxes each filled with 30 pounds of food to St. Anthony Garden Courts residents in St. Cloud. Residents of the 55-plus community received milk, cereal, fruits, lentils, pasta and more. To keep the seniors healthy, the Catholic Charities team made sure to pack foods low in sodium.

Property manager Rebekah Elawden said she reached out on behalf of the residents after noting their struggle to keep up with rising grocery prices. She was grateful for the “great work and amazing effort” and hopes to coordinate future food drops. “Seniors are in need of our constant support as they are on fixed income,” she said. “They need the most help we can give with compassion and kindness. It’s a great blessing to offer them any assistance to have a better life.”

“It’s a great blessing to receive this food,” affirmed resident Vilma Vega. “We’re very happy because it helps us at this difficult time.”
