ORLANDO | Bishop John Noonan inaugurated the opening of Cristo Rey Orlando High School, Feb. 26, 2025.
“Let us pray that we may uphold the core values of this endeavor: Created, chosen, cherished, connected, courageous, compassionate, cooperative, and crowned for we have hope and assurance in the promises of God for eternal life and glory in His presence,” he said.
The bishop added, “(William) Orosz dreamed a dream two years ago and now it is a reality and we thank God for that gift.”
Orosz became emotional when he spoke. “Today we open doors to opportunity, to hope and to a brighter future,” he said. He told the future students present that he and all the supporters believe in them. “Cristo Rey is about a promise, a promise to the students who walk through these halls, to families who dreamed the best for their children, and to this community,” he said emotionally. “Education is the great equalizer. And we all accept that challenge to teach, to nurture, and to love these kids who are about to experience Cristo Rey School.”
After Amanda Livermore, CEO and founding president, cut the ribbon, students, families and guests toured the renovated building.
Cristo Rey Orlando is dedicated to empowering under-resourced students through a unique educational experience that integrates rigorous academics and corporate work experience with a strong Catholic faith foundation.
