ORLANDO | Bishop John Noonan joined Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, various elected officials, law enforcement officers, college students and faith leaders in the ceremonial signing of The Central Florida Pledge. A call to action for residents to create a safe and inclusive community for all, The Central Florida Pledge is a community-driven initiative focused on fighting hate and discrimination in central Florida.
“We are trying to plant seeds of hope in the lives of the people so we can show peace, justice and respect for all human beings is alive and well,” said Bishop Noonan.
The signing ceremony took place at Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts in Orlando, Feb. 29, 2024. Participants commit to “leading by example, treating all people, especially those with whom (one) disagrees, with kindness and respect. They agree to restrain from inflammatory words and actions, and to report threatening incidents of hate and violence.” They also hold firm in educating themselves about all forms of discrimination and helping others in their circle of influence to do the same.
