ORLANDO | In a world that is seemingly so divided, an interfaith panel brings hope for unity. Missionary of Mercy, Father Anthony Aarons facilitated the talks taking place at Bishop Moore Catholic High School as an extension of student’s religious education course.

Father Aarons said hospitality was the priority, followed by the mutual educational aspect “as the best way to learn about others is by listening to them and instead of highlighting our differences we looked at areas of similarity,” he said.

Seeking solidarity they “celebrated (their) oneness”. He noted, “We are one in the struggles common to humanity and as one people of goodwill we work together to bring about the peace of all so that we can live together in respectful harmony.”

Religion instructor Helen Hines noted, “It was important to have this opportunity for the students because it gave them a chance to interact and learn from leaders of the faith traditions we studied in class. This allowed students to hear directly from people of other faith traditions, something they usually may not be able to do.” While understanding one gathering is not enough, she hopes “students come away feeling more confident in their abilities to create relationships with people in their communities of different faiths and beliefs.”
