ORLANDO | Holy Family Catholic School gathered December 8 to honor our Blessed Mother on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The student body prayed the Glorious Mysteries, then presented white carnations to Our Lady as the Litany to the Blessed Virgin Mary was sung by the Middle School Choir.

Afterward, Sister Dorothy Sayers, principal, led the eighth-grade class in a private prayer to Our Lady, asking her guidance and help as these young scholars begin their journey into high school. Then the students presented their flowers to Our Lady.

Later that morning, all students participated in the celebration of Mass. Father Martin Nguyen shared a beautiful homily about leaning on our Blessed Mother when we are in need or afraid. He said, “God gifted all His children with a loving, patient, and caring heavenly Mother.”

Our primary teaching about Mary comes from the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception, defined by Pope Pius IX on December 8, 1854. It says, “The Most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first instant of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace granted by God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race, preserved exempt from all stain of original sin” (Ineffabilis Deus).
