The Mission Office encourages the people of the Diocese to accept the responsibilities incumbent on all followers of the Gospel to share their time, talents and treasures with those who have limited access to the wealth and resources of the earth. We inspire people to become the voice of those who have none. Together with the people we serve, we seek to find creative solutions to the root causes of injustice in our global community.

The Mission Office in the Diocese of Orlando is now focused on serving two important needs:

- The sister Diocese of San Juan de la Maguana, where five educational centers provide young people a future of hope.
- The Pontifical Mission Societies, which helps to bring the Good News of Christ to the world, especially in countries where the Church is new, young or poor.

Bishop John Noonan’s overall vision for missions in the Diocese of Orlando is to encourage all baptized Catholics to answer the call to become missionaries.

The Mission Integration and Engagement area of the Mission Office is directed by Justo González, II. He is responsible for the Pontifical Mission Societies and is part of the Evangelization Secretariat. Previously, Father John McCormick, rector of St. James Cathedral, coordinated mission efforts through the Propagation of the Faith, one of the four entities of The Pontifical Mission Societies in the U.S.

The Pontifical Mission Societies motto, “One Family in Mission,” has been personalized for the Diocese of Orlando’s efforts: “God Has Created Me... I Have a Mission.” These words will help the faithful understand God’s mission for them, Gonzalez said.

“It is our responsibility as individuals to live out our faith, particularly in this Year of Faith, in ways that transform lives, bring healing and hope, compassion, and welcome others to the table of Christ,” Gonzalez said. “We need to bring Christ to all of those we encounter and answer the call to evangelize.”

Because the Pontifical Mission Societies also verifies the authenticity of the mission speakers, the Mission Integration and Engagement area will be a resource to parishes.

“There are many people who call upon our parishes with a poignant request for a community in need and ask for an opportunity to speak to parishioners on Sunday,” Gonzalez said. “The Pontifical Mission Societies allows us the opportunity to validate the need and verify that any contributions will serve the people for whom they were collected.”
